We're in the process of a much needed home renovation. The kitchen is getting completely gutted and everything will be replaced. A large doorway is being created between the kitchen and dining room for a more open feel. Both external walls will be insulated (No, we don't have insulation in any of the walls!). The existing door to the back deck is being closed and a set of French doors will be installed in the center of the wall. The new doors will open outward into a new screened-in porch.
The existing attic joists (2x6's) will be sistered with 2x10's and subflooring will be installed. Two rooms and a small hallway will be framed. A double window will be added to the back wall. The remainder of the work upstairs will be completed by me after the contractors are done. The back room will be used as an office/extra bedroom. The front room will probably be Charlie's future bedroom (TBD).
I'm infestinig the walls with Cat-5, Cat-3, RG-6 and speaker wire. I wanted to take full advantage of the walls being exposed. Most every room will have a network connection. I'm installing speakers in the kitchen ceiling. I already have speakers in the back of the house for the deck. I'm putting in two volume controls on the wall by the French doors...one for the back pair and one for the kitchen pair.
